And Baby Makes Three!
As some of you may have already heard, we are having a baby! Amber is 16 weeks along and both she and baby are doing well. Thank you for sharing in our excitement and for already lifting up this precious little one! Being pregnant here has brought about some unforeseen cultural clashes, but overall we are feeling strongly supported by our community here and learning new things on an almost daily basis. Our favorite piece of pregnancy advice so far: "Make sure you satisfy every food craving. If you don't, your baby will drool a lot!"
Unfortunately we have sad news to share as well. The Delta variant of COVID has hit Indo really hard, and hospitals in Malang have run out of oxygen. We know of multiple people who have passed away in the last few weeks because of this. We are always amazed and impressed by the way Indonesians come around one another during times of hardship, and this is no exception.
The country is in lockdown again, and we aren't sure when things will get back to "normal". We are hoping that vaccines would become more readily available, and that hospitals would be equipped to meet the needs of new patients.
Here are few additional updates:
"The Gathering" is on pause during lockdown. It is too difficult to host meetings online, but Amber is connecting with the girls as much as possible one-on-one over the phone.
Amber's English teaching is now online as well, which isn't as enjoyable as meeting in person but it is still going smoothly!
Next week Jake will travel again to Sulawesi to continue his research project on the Loka Pere banana. His last trip was a huge success, and we are hoping for more stories of what our Father does in this village!
Jake has also been busy with a number of work projects, such as helping design waste management systems to ensure the new factory will comply with new environmental regulations.
