After months of waiting and uncertainty, we are finally back safe and sound in Malang! Our travels all went smoothly--multiple COVID tests and all. We flew out of Chicago on May 5th and landed in the capital on May 7th where we quarantined for five days. We then jumped on one last short flight to finish up our journey, arriving one day before Eid Al Fitri. It has been a joy to settle back in and reconnect with friends and neighbors.

Today Jake will be visiting the Brawijaya campus to discuss a more long-term plan (both for his research and visas). He is planning a trip to Sulawesi the second week of June to begin data collection.
Our language skills feel a little rusty, but overall we are pleasantly surprised by how quickly Bahasa is coming back to us.
We are joined by our two new teammates here whom we led through cultural orientation last month. It is such a blessing to be here all together in person!
Amber will be meeting with her Yemeni friends soon and passing off some Books in their native language. She is also hoping to start English courses again very soon.
